Two fellows are sitting out on the verandah of their local hotel, enjoying an ale and a little bit of blitz chess.
They are playing a best of eleven games with a wager of $5 on each game with an extra $50 on the overall result.
The games had been fairly even, and in the eleventh game, with around 1 minute left on his clock, one player stops as a funeral procession approaches, stands up, takes off his hat and waits till it has passed.
He then sees that his clock has run out and dutifully hands over $55 to his opponent. The opponent objects that he cannot take the man’s money as that it was a wonderful gesture from the man that had cost him the game.
The man replies, “It was the least I could do. We were married for 15 years!”
